RE Students Attend Candle Conference

Our Year 12 and 13 A-level Religious Education students recently took part in an inspiring Candle Conference led by renowned theologian Dr Peter Vardy, whose work features prominently in the A-level curriculum. Throughout the day, Dr Vardy guided students through key areas of their studies, including the nature of God and classical and modern arguments for the existence of God. His engaging approach helped deepen students’ understanding of these complex philosophical and theological issues.
To conclude the conference, students participated in a formal debate addressing the motion: “This house believes faith has little to do with reason.” This provided an excellent opportunity for them to apply their learning, think critically, and articulate well-reasoned arguments in a collaborative setting. Dr Vardy emphasised the importance of strong analytical skills, encouraging students to refine the depth of their evaluation and argument. These are essential components for success in their A-level examinations. The event was both challenging and enriching, and we are proud of how confidently our students engaged with the material and made the most of this valuable learning experience.
