Learning About Shakespeare's Globe

Students at the Globe

Year 7 students enjoyed a visit to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. The world-renowned performing arts venue, cultural attraction and education centre is located on the bank of the Thames in Southwark, London.

Students took part in a workshop and had a tour of the Theatre. They learnt some fascinating facts about the Globe's history from it's first opening in 1599, it's destruction by fire in 1613 and subsequent rebuilding until it was closed again in 1642. The current Globe Theatre opened in 1997, after many years of campaigning by the founder of the Shakespeare's Globe Trust, Sam Wanamaker.

It was a fascinating day for Year 7 as, this term, students are experiencing an introduction to the plays of William Shakespeare through an exploration of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. This trip will really help to bring their studies to life.
