Year 7 Visit Gurdwara To Learn About The Sikh Faith

Students at the Sikh Gurdwara

Year 7 students enjoyed a visit, led by the RE Department, to the Sikh Gurdwara in Leadenhall to learn more about the Sikh Faith.

Students walked from school to the Gurdwara where they observed the tradition of removing their shoes, washing their hands and covering their heads before entering the Langar Hall for a welcome from Jisbeer Kaur Lotey.

Jisbeer then took the students upstairs to the Main Dharbar where the sangat (congregation) worships. She gave a fascinating talk about the Sikh belief and told us about the Sikh Gurus. Jisbeer also gave a demonstration of musical instruments including tabla (drums) and harmonium  and spoke about Gatka, an ancient martial art. Our students also had the opportunity to view the holy book of Sikhism, Guru Granth Sahib.

Afterwards students returned to the Langar Hall for a cold drink and snack before making their way back to school.

Laura Maw, Head of RE, said: “After Covid it was great to be able to re-establish our links with the Sikh community. Thank you to Jisbeer and everyone at the Gurdwara for making us so welcome.”
