Football Tournament Supports #LetGirlsPlay

Year 7 girls at the football tournament

Around 100 students in Years 7 to 9 took part in a mixed team football tournament intended to celebrate girls in football and to encourage more girls to play. We were delighted to welcome Jon Denwick, Girls RTC Centre Manager at MK Dons SET, and Mollie Coupar, striker for MK Dons Women who presented awards and scouted for any outstanding talent at St Paul’s.

Miss Vanisha Patel, PE Teacher, said: “We thought it would be a good idea to mix the boys and girls to develop confidence, promote inclusion and remove the gender stigma that is often linked with football. It was great to see so many of our students participating so enthusiastically”

Thank you to our Sixth Form Leadership team who ran the event.

The winning teams were:

Year 7 – the Pink Team

Year 8 – the Shush Team

Year 9 – the Yellow Team

The session was part of the #LetGirlsPlay campaign. By 2024, The FA and Barclays, who are sponsoring the campaign, want girls to have the same football opportunities as boys in schools and clubs. #LetGirlsPlay aims to drive influence and change perceptions, showing that football can and should be played by girls. It is bringing together a growing community of people of all genders, ages and backgrounds who want to champion equal access for girls, helping create independent, resilient young girls who will be a force for good in all local communities.
