Giving Back To The Community On Feast Day

Students at Courteneys Lodge

To celebrate our Feast Day on Friday 29th June, students and staff at St Paul’s took part in a range of volunteering activities to give something back to the local community in Milton Keynes.

The activities took place in and around the school and students also visited charities, schools, care homes and businesses in locations around Milton Keynes.  Students’ destinations included:

  • MK Snap in Walnut Tree where they helped build flower beds
  • Age UK’s shop and warehouse at Kiln Farm where they helped to assemble flat pack furniture
  • Courteneys Lodge, a housing scheme in Furzton for older people with dementia, where they performed music on piano, guitar and clarinet and sang for residents, some of whom were moved to tears
  • Beaverbrook Court, a care home in Bletchley, where they chatted to residents and served cakes they had baked at school in the morning
  • Furzton Lake, where they undertook a litter pick and collected 14 sacks of litter with The Parks Trust (thank you to Signposts in Luton who donated litter picking equipment and to The Parks Trust’s Community Ranger Jools Kendall for joining us)
  • Catholic primary schools in MK where students took part in reading activities
  • Morrisons Supermarket in CMK where students helped pack customers’ shopping
  • Woughton Community Council in Coffee Hall where students helped set up for a tea dance

Students also litter picked the school site and the surrounding redway, helped out on reception and in the general and finance offices and assisted the maintenance team with cleaning and painting.  A number of students worked in the Art Department to paint a giant seaside themed mural for a care home.

Mrs Jo-Anne Hoarty, Headteacher, said:  “I’m very proud of our pupils for serving the community in this way and we had lots of positive comments about our pupils living out our school mission by loving, serving and doing the best that is possible.”
