OU Academics Address EPQ Students

The OU presenting to our EPQ students

The Sixth Form at St. Paul’s was proud to welcome Gareth Davies and Trevor Collins from the Open University to run a session on effective academic research whilst undertaking an Extended Project.

The Year 12 students completed a number of challenging activities that helped them to appreciate the subtleties of academic literature and helped them to understand how to incorporate this work into their final piece. Both researchers said they were impressed with the independent and collaborative nature of the students they met and they marvelled at the range of projects that the students were working on.

St Paul’s has built close links with the Open University which has helped our students to appreciate and produce work of a university standard. This appreciation of independent, academic rigour not only prepares students for University and the world of work but allows a majority of the students on the course to produce work of an A or A* standard. Success in the EPQ is highly regarded by universities who, in our experience, give students reduced offers and it allows students to ‘stand out from the crowd’ during interviews for the top universities.
