Talented Year 9 pupil Dawud Malik has scooped a gold medal for his Taekwon-Do skills in this year’s International Taekwon-Do Federation British Championships in Bath.  It is the second time Dawud has been a British Champion.  In 2015 he became the Under 12 British Champion and has now added the Under 14 gold to his medal haul.

Dawud said:  “I was really pleased to win at the British Championships.  I like the fighting and the technical side of Taekwondo – you’re always learning something new.”

Ross Knapper, Head of PE at St Paul’s Catholic School, said:  “Dawud is a very diligent and committed pupil and it is great to see his hard work rewarded with a gold medal at the British Championships.  We are very proud of his achievements.”

Dawud, a member of the Chand Institute of Taekwon-Do, first took up the martial art when he was six years old and trains for several hours a week.  He was originally inspired by his dad and by watching martial arts films.

Taekwon-Do is a martial art originating in Korea.  It combines training the mind with learning techniques for unarmed combat for self-defence.
