Fireworks: Real Science or Just Bangs?

Matthew Tosh introduces you to his magical and explosive world of pyrotechnic science. Find out about the STEM behind fireworks, and see how he creates colours, sound effects and perfectly timed bursts to music. Featuring shock waves, forces, energy pathways, electricity, fire, sparks, smoke and more. Go behind the scenes with Matthew as he unpicks the building blocks of modern day firework displays. This is an exciting and demonstration-filled show which is guaranteed to have audiences on the edge of their seats.

Matthew is a presenter and pyrotechnician who has worked behind the scenes of firework displays and live performances for the past 14 years.  He is a  former teacher and TV presenter who has always been fascinated by how things work. A collaboration with Aardman Animations saw Matthew create special effects and explosions for the film Early Man, which was released in 2018. Closer to home Matthew can be heard on local radio in Bristol.

Doors open at 5.30pm for refreshments, the lecture will take place from 6.00-7.00pm.  Matthew will be available for a Q & A session between 7.00-7.30pm
