Charles Puts Choir Through Its Paces

There were sweet sounds coming from the Music Department when renowned British tenor Charles MacDougall put the St Paul’s Catholic School Choir through their vocal paces.

Charles, a founder-member of vocal ensemble VOCES8 and a regular performer on television, radio and in concert halls around the world, conducted a day of musical workshops helping students learn about finding the timbre of a song, how to breathe correctly and how to harmonise.  He also gave them useful tips about body language and interpreting songs.

They practised a gospel classic, ‘Going up a Yonder’, which they will perform at a Catholic Schools’ event, ‘A Celebration of Song’, on 18th June.

Lucia McLernon, Head of Music at St Paul’s, said:  “We were very lucky to have Charles with us today to give our students some valuable vocal coaching for their future performances and to share his enthusiasm and love for singing with us.”

The St Paul’s Choir will perform a selection of songs, along with Milton Keynes’ Catholic Primary Schools at ‘A Celebration of Song’ at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone in Central Milton Keynes on Monday 18th June from 6 – 7.30pm.
