Pupils Learn How To Get That Job

Get That Job Session

Local employers gave Year 9 pupils an insight into getting jobs during a ‘Career Workout’ session organised by Worktree.

During the ‘Get That Job’ exercise, the pupils met with employers in a speed-dating format to ask them what it’s like to be interviewed, the sort of questions they should prepare for and the types of careers available in their organisations.

Pupils were then able to put this advice into practise during a series of mock interview panels.  The employers, who included the Open University, Network Rail, NHBC, Army Careers, Santander and Dentons, were impressed with the calibre of students.  One commented: “I loved the energy and directness of the questions”, and another said: “I enjoyed learning about what is important to students and helping them develop skills to achieve it!”

Nicola Parkins, the Teacher responsible for Work-Related Learning activities at St Paul’s said:  “These sessions are very important for our pupils as they help them develop the skills they will need for the workplace.  We’re very grateful to all the employers who gave up their valuable time to be with our pupils and to share their expert knowledge.  Our pupils will find this very useful as they will be going on work experience next year.”
